Chapter 36: Beaver City 1
TL: Beavers are “semiaquatic.” It might be alluding to the background setting of this arc.
The white haze dissipated before her eyes. This time, the location was a very prosperous city with high-rise buildings.
The street was empty. It was quiet enough to hear one’s own breathing.
A familiar screen lit up in front of Fu Anan.
Welcome back to the Survival Game. In this round, the participants include 200,000 NPCs and 9 players, including you. Please strive to survive for thirty days.
This round’s game: Beaver City
The text disappeared after thirty seconds, and then voices surged from all directions.
Fu Anan was standing in a shopping mall. A row of TVs was placed next to her, playing the city’s promotional slogans: [Beaver City is the most popular coastal tourist city, with beautiful scenery and comfortable temperatures. Welcome to tourists from all over the world.]
This time, there were no NPCs to guide Fu Anan. She stood there alone, temporarily unsure of what to do.
The home appliances section of the mall was quite popular. After standing there for a while, many people gathered around her. All of them were there for one thing——to buy air conditioners.
Fu Anan stood by the side, listening to the NPCs’ chatter.
A red-haired woman complained to her companion, “The weather forecast keeps saying that it will rain, but it’s scorching hot every day. I can’t bear it.”
“Exactly, right? It’s been sunny for two to three months straight, and not even a drop of rain in sight.” The woman’s companion nodded in agreement, “Just coming out this time almost roasted me alive. I hope it rains soon.”
Listening to their conversation, Fu Anan gathered a vital piece of information——The weather was sweltering. They were hoping for rain.
Drought? Flooding?
These were the disasters that Fu Anan could think of, but she didn’t know which of either of them would occur.
Fu Anan followed the crowd out of the shopping mall. The scorching heat from the pavement caused all the pores on her body to expand.
Finally, she found a newsstand by the side of the road where a news broadcast was playing: [Today, Beaver City issued an orange warning for high temperatures, with the maximum temperature reaching 39 degrees Celsius within 24 hours. All citizens and tourists, please pay attention to the heat.]
“Shopkeeper, can you get me an ice cream?”
She had just seen it at the shopping mall. This Beaver City still used the big coins produced by Blue Star.
However, as a tourist city, the prices here were exceptionally high.
Fu Anan walked around the city center, stopping here and there until she finally found a relatively cheap place to stay.
She would have to live in this city for over thirty days, so she needed a place to stay.
This was a very old apartment located on the sixth floor. There was no elevator, and it was found in a remote area.
She chose it simply because it was the cheapest option.
The rent is two thousand a month. It includes gas, air conditioning, and a TV. It’s a one-bedroom apartment with a kitchen and a bathroom.” The emotionless landlord explained.
Fu Anan nodded her head, “It’s acceptable.”
After seeing the landlord off, Fu Anan turned on the air conditioner. The air conditioner made crackling noises as if it was about to break down, but it was still functioning.
Sitting on the edge of the bed, Fu Anan carefully observed the surroundings. Everything in the room conveyed just how dilapidated it was, from the unpainted cement walls, rusty windows, and damaged furniture to the bugs in the corners.
Dust was everywhere, and even the bed she was sitting on didn’t look clean.
After a short rest, Fu Anan began to clean up the room.
She wiped and mopped from the bedroom to the kitchen, barely managing to tidy up the apartment. When she checked the time, it was already 5 PM.
Fu Anan turned off the air conditioner and prepared to go out. She headed to the supermarket to buy a blanket and some food.
The temperature outside was still very high. By the time Fu Anan reached the shopping mall, her back was already soaked with sweat.
A large city slogan hung in the mall——”Welcome to Beaver City, where the temperature is pleasant and the scenery is beautiful.”
