How to Be a Successful Magical Pet - Chapter 19
The last thing Evan ended up carrying out from the breeding center was still a small fluffy black and white panda. When he saw the silver dragon turning into a panda, he couldn’t help but think about what kind of magical beast he was raising, and whether it would change its species again the next time they met; but when he reached out and hugged the round and soft little fur ball, all his thoughts changed to: My magical pet is so cute no matter what it becomes anyway.
He didn’t know how these four short legs could become so long after turning into a human.
As his fingertips traced over the soft pads of Ye Chi’s front paws, this thought suddenly popped up in his mind, and then his entire face uncontrollably turned crimson, and he withdrew his fingers quickly as if he had been scalded.
Ye Chi was lying well on Evan’s chest when suddenly he almost fell off. He quickly grabbed the smooth fabric in front of him, used his tree-climbing skills, climbed up to his shoulder in two steps, and sat down steadily next to his neck.
The strange feeling in Evan’s heart didn’t disappear; he left Ye Chi on his shoulder and no longer held him, just lowered his head and hurried to the school gate. The carriage of the Raoul family had already been waiting there. His two cousins were also studying in the Hylia Academy and they were going back with him in the same carriage this time.
Both of them also had their own combat magical pets to protect them, which were large adult magical beasts. They were tied to the back of the carriage and guarded by two servants on horseback. Evan himself never let Ye Chi’s paws touch the ground when they went out, and now he wouldn’t let him run after the carriage like those two pets. So he hugged him and walked up to the carriage.
There were already two people sitting in the carriage, his cousins Kenny and Granger. One was as cold as if he couldn’t see him, while the other’s eyes flashed with defensiveness and contempt the moment he saw him.
“Evan, is this your pet? It’s not so small and ugly now, but it’s still an ordinary beast with no magic power. You’re going to bring such a pet to the spring test, is it because you’re afraid you won’t lose fast enough? You have to know that the person who gets last place in this test will lose the qualification to inherit the title and be driven back to… your countryside farm.”
The blush on Evan’s face faded at the sight of those two people. He was tired of Granger’s childish provocations, so he lowered his head indifferently and stepped into the carriage.
Granger stretched out his long legs and directly put them on the opposite seat, blocking his way to the carriage, a malicious smile appearing at the corner of his mouth, “Throw this useless thing away earlier. And perhaps the Duke will give you a little bit of sympathy points since you don’t have any magical pets, so that you can still stay in the Duke’s Mansion as a manservant after you fail the test.”
Evan, not bothering to deal with his little tricks, slammed the door of the carriage hard and made one of the horsemen sit at the back of the carriage and mounted the horse himself.
The cool air of early spring hit his face and poured straight into the collar of his robe, making him cough lightly. Ye Chi climbed down from Evan’s shoulders, and burrowed into the open collar of his robe, pressing a sharp kiss under his ear and reassuring, “I’ll help you win, Evan. I can do magic now, so you don’t have to worry.”
The voice was soft and tender, and the warm and moist breath on Evan’s ear warmed him from the inside out. His body warmed up before his heart did, and the warm fur around his collar and waist was more comfortable than holding a hot water bottle. And even his anger at Granger’s earlier provocations had dissipated a lot.
The journey was quiet, except for the fact that the convoy was taxed twice on the way out of Hylia County, and the magical pets tied to the back of the carriage was also stopped and inspected once by the person in charge of the tax card set up by the church.
The person responsible for the inspection was a red-faced young monk with a gentle attitude. He left Ye Chi who was hiding in his master’s robe to keep warm, and only looked at the contract patterns of the two large magical beasts. And after confirming them, he even explained to them the reason for the tax.
The church’s explanation was that a few days ago, the beasts in Mount Oceanus rioted, killing a large number of mercenaries and even monks who went into the mountain to deal with the beast tide. In order to remedy this catastrophe and prevent any more high-level beasts from harming the town, they had to pay more taxes to maintain the anti-magic beast array at the foot of the mountain. The reason for checking these beasts was also for fear that those harmful high-level beasts would disguise themselves as ordinary magical pets and escape to the outside.
Evan himself knew the truth of this matter. And when he heard this, his heart went cold. If it hadn’t been for the warmth of the little body in his arms, he would have lost his head and refuted the man’s words on the spot.
God’s original will is to be loving, merciful, compassionate and forgiving to all that exists. So how can his followers be so cruel, hypocritical… and greedy?
He bowed his head as low as he could, crossed himself on his chest, suppressed his anger and loss, shook the reins, and followed the carriage out of Hylia County.
When they returned to Raoul’s house, butler Sims had already opened the door and was waiting for them at the foot of the steps with a maid. Granger was the first to get off the carriage. With a surprised smile on his face, he said with fake politeness, “Butler Sims, this isn’t the first time we have come back, so there’s no need to come to pick us up.”
Maintaining his impeccably elegant demeanor, Butler Sims nodded to him with a smile, “Yes, Young Master Granger, I have come to pick up Miss Aglia by the order of the Duke.”
The smile on Granger’s lips suddenly stiffened, awkwardly looking at butler Sims as he walked straight past him and bowed to Evan, whom Granger despised, “Young Master Evan, the Duke has specially hired a tailor to make clothes for Miss Aglia. So please give her to me.”
Evan touched his magical pet that kept shaking its head at his collar. And after a few seconds of silent consideration, he lifted the hem of his robe, tucked its head down through the collar, and handed it to the butler from under the hem of his robe.
Sims held the little round fur ball in his arms, and with a small smile on his wrinkled face, he brought him to the Duke and the tailor who were waiting as quickly as possible.
Duke Raoul still had a cold attitude, and with a gloomy light flashing in his eagle eyes, he took Ye Chi and looked at him from top to bottom.
“You have grown up quite a lot, your face is also rounder, and the circles under your eyes seem to be even longer…” He rubbed Ye Chi’s face hard, weighed it with his hands, frowned and called the butler, “Go get a scale and see how much this child weighs. If it’s more than 10 kilograms, you can keep it in the pet garden in the back. It doesn’t have to follow its master around all day.”
Ye Chi didn’t known what had come to the Duke’s mind, but the corners of his mouth which had been turned down, curved up a little, “No, it’s better to let her stay in the room next to my bedroom, Rose’s old room, for now.”
Ever since Ye Chi was harassed by this strange uncle, he felt phantom limb pain whenever he looked at him. The thought of sharing a room with him in the future made the hairs on his body stand on end. When he was carried onto the scale by the butler, he desperately sucked in his stomach, tiptoed up on the tips of his paws, and exhaled all the air in his lungs, hoping that he would be a little bit lighter by two pounds.
If I had known, I wouldn’t have eaten so much at Winchester’s. If I had followed the panda’s diet and eaten bamboo every day, I definitely wouldn’t have gained this much weight.
He was too nervous to look at the number on the scale. After waiting for a long time with his eyes closed, he finally heard the old voice of the butler, “9.7 kilograms, probably will be 10 after eating dinner.”
The Duke was also a little disappointed, but his expression remained unperturbed as he said lightly, “Forget it, the rules can’t be changed. Let’s add some fresh griffin meat to Aglia in the next two days.” With that said, he picked up Ye Chi and rubbed his round little belly, “It’s only 0.3 kilograms, it won’t take long.”
When the Duke had had enough, he handed him over to the tailor for measurements, and sat on the sofa, looking at the scene with his chin in one hand, and instructed in a deadpan manner, “Make the skirt a little bigger and make two more dancing shoes. There’s a birthday ball the day after tomorrow, so maybe we can get Aglia to do the opening dance.”
The butler kindly added, “Please adjust the waistline properly, Miss Aglia should grow a little fatter in these two days.”
Soon the measurements were taken, and the butler sent him back to Evan’s room, and informed his master of the Duke’s pet placement rules. Evan hadn’t been able to see his pet for months at school, and now that he was back home and could finally spend time with his pet, he heard such rules. His eyebrows suddenly knit together, and he looked bitterly at Ye Chi’s belly.
Evan and Ye Chi looked at each other and immediately had a tactic understanding. And during dinner, Ye Chi flatly refused the bloody fresh griffin meat and didn’t even dare to drink the milk. He only nibbled two pieces of bamboo in small bites, chewing each bite dozens of times before he could swallow it. He was more ladylike than any noblewoman.
Evan looked at the scraps of branches and leaves left on the ground, and emotionally hugged the poor magical pet, “It’s not good to eat so little all the time. You should eat what you want. The Duke is very good to you. And the small suite next to his bedroom is also very comfortable… the spring break is only a few days anyway.”
No matter what Evan said, Ye Chi was determined to lose weight and refused to eat even a bite of raw meat.
But diet alone wasn’t enough, the next day he took advantage of Evan’s sword practice and started working out. Because the panda’s short legs were too inconvenient to run, Ye Chi simply turned back into a human, changed into a robe and soft-soled shoes, and jogged on the spot around the room.
He even ran to the mirror and took a skeptical look at his body. This figure was also the same as the one from his previous life. Although he didn’t have eight-pack abs, but he could see that his waist was still his waist and his legs were still his legs, so sharp that there wasn’t a single piece of excess fat.
It was a body that belonged purely to a human male, and it was also the most difficult body to lose weight. In Ye Chi’s opinion, this body was even cuter and more precious than the national treasure, the giant panda. He looked at himself in the mirror and used the demonic power in his body, slowly transforming those muscle groups that hadn’t been exercised in his previous life from the pectoral muscles, back muscles, and abdominal muscles… little by little.
A few days ago, he transformed into a human and a dragon, which made Ye Chi’s shapeshifting perfect. And he had already activated the “What You See Is What You Get” mode, and without closing his eyes, he could gather his demonic power and reshape the imperfect parts of his body in front of the mirror however he wanted.
It was close to dinner time when Evan came back from the training ground. As soon as he reached the hallway, an oak door in the hallway was pushed open from the inside, revealing Granger’s mocking face.
Evan, unwilling to get angry, deliberately ignored this scene and continued to walk towards his room, only to hear his cousin’s deliberately raised voice as he said, “Evan, tomorrow night is the Duke’s birthday party. Have you found a partner yet? I have asked a few noble ladies for you this morning, but unfortunately none of them want to dance with the son of a manor owner from the countryside. You need to think of something for yourself as well. Someone who isn’t good at dancing and socializing won’t be able to become the Duke’s heir.”
Unmoved by this nonsense, Evan pushed Granger’s arm out of the way with the back of his hand, and headed to his room.
The closed door of his room suddenly opened from the inside, and a beautiful woman with long silky black hair and a white linen robe that reached above her ankles walked out. She wrapped one hand around Evan’s neck, and laughed beautifully and coldly, “Who said Evan doesn’t have a partner? I’m his partner!”
Granger was so surprised that his jaw dropped. He stared at the woman who suddenly appeared out of nowhere for a long time before he said, “Who are you? And why are you in Evan’s room?”
The other person turned her head slightly sideways and pressed Evan’s face to her shoulder, raised her eyebrows at Granger, and replied with a smile, “It’s only natural for me to live here, after all little Evan is my master.”
