My Cats Are All Bigshots [Transmigration] - Chapter 10
“This cat will do nicely. Very nicely. ”
Director Xu Tianhe looked at the cat. The more he looked at it the more pleased he was with it: “I have a black cat at my old house. It’s a head smaller than this, and it can catch ten mice a day. It’s quite useful. ”
“Rest assured, Director. My Zai Zai won’t let you down.”
Wen Xin answered before bigwig could flip out, as she shot glances at it:
Endure, endure it. Let’s talk about it after you’re allowed to stay!
The black cat snorted and temporarily suppressed its anger.
Who would have known that Xu Tianhe would take a mile after being given an inch once. 1
The black cat skillfully turned its body to the side, in time to avoid Xu Tianhe’s hand.
“……” Xu Tianhe’s outstretched hand stopped in mid-air. The scene was a little awkward for a moment.
Wen Xin hurriedly put the black cat in her arms and apologetically explained: “My apologies, director, my Zai Zai just came here, and is shy with strangers.”
“Haha. I see.” Xu Tianhe laughed and retrieved his hand.
At that moment, the voice of a woman laughing lightly was heard.
“Director Xu, this is your[formal] fault. A pet cat that is afraid of strangers, how could you expect it to catch mice?”
“Hmm?” Xu Tianhe was stunned, “Xiao Wen 2, this is a pet cat?”
Xu Tianhe is very old. He didn’t understand the different breeds of cats and dogs on the market.
He just saw that the black cat was big and beautiful, so he thought that it must be very good at catching mice. But the woman’s words remind him——
A female celebrity’s cat will never be a cat specially trained to catch mice.
Wen Xin laughed and patted the little head of the black cat in her arms: “Director, you[formal] don’t know this, but my Zai Zai is a Maine cat. Its scientific name is Maine Coon cat. It first appeared as a working farm cat. Its mousetrapping skills are engraved in its bones.”
“A working cat?”
Xu Tianhe was stunned again, and then suddenly realized: “So, that means that it’s great at catching mice!”
Wen Xin was about to nod her head and say yes, but the woman who had no reason to get involved in the conversation interrupted again: “Hmph, pet cats nowadays are kept in a room every day and are fed with delicious food. How can it catch rats when it’s never seen what a mouse looks like from birth to now?”
Wen Xin: “……..”
I ignored you and you’ve become addicted to going against me, haven’t you?
The woman who spoke appeared in front of Wen Xin.
On a cold day, she wore a black slim low-cut dress, seven centimeter high heels, with big sunglasses and bright lipstick. At a glance, Wen Xin noticed that her one-piece dress was the latest of the Dior family, and the bag on her hand was also a limited edition by Hermes, not to mention that her shining diamond ring almost blinded her eyes when she raised her hand.
Then connecting it to the original host’s memories, Wen Xin had an idea of who this person in front of her was: Fu Lingxuan, the entertainment circle’s first-class trending young female celebrity.
Fu Lingxuan’s appearance was not exactly a Chinese beauty in the traditional sense. A quarter of her blood was from an ethnic minority.. With deep facial features. a high nose, and a height of 1.75 meters, she stood out in a crowd.
But it was this exotic beauty that made people all over the country infatuated. They would vote her as one of the major beauties. As long as it was a role that she was acting in ——no matter how bad of a character it was—— the audience would tolerate it and say: At least she is beautiful enough.
Fu Lingxuan’s temper was as bad as the rumors.
She stood next to Wen Xin, her eyebrows raised, she didn’t hide her provocative attitude: “Wen Xin was it?”
“Yes, ” the corners of Wen Xin’s mouth curled into a sweet smile.
Next to Fu Lingxuan was another woman.
The woman—called Ruan Qiu—’s presence was far less than that of Fu Lingxuan, but she was also one of the few female celebrities that had a name and fame.
Ruan Qiu looked exactly like her name—soft and harmless.
But it was not made clear as to why the original host didn’t have a good impression of her.
“Come, let’s not argue about the cat. Since everyone’s here, let’s first introduce ourselves to one another.” Xu Tianhe laughed and gathered the three of them together: “Lingxuan—everyone knows so I won’t say much, Xiao Qiu—is an old friend who has cooperated with me since the last film. Wen Xin, you are a newbie, so if there’s anything that you don’t understand, feel free to talk to everyone.”
“Director, Wen Xin isn’t some newbie.”
Fu Lingxuan took off her sunglasses and revealed her beautiful face. She laughed and continued: “She has already debuted for three years.”
No matter how low her EQ was, Wen Xin could understand that Fu Lingxuan seemed to disapprove of her.
Moreover, she (Fu Lingxuan) didn’t want to hide the fact that she didn’t want to hide her disdain.
To be honest, Wen Xin couldn’t comprehend. Fu Lingxuan was the female lead for this drama. Even if Wen Xin got airdropped into the crew, she didn’t take her spot? Could it be that she didn’t want the female lead role, but wanted the second female lead role?
Did the characteristic of the second female lead go against the natural order [efn_note]逆天nì tiān=to be in defiance of the natural order. Basically Wen Xin is assuming that Fu Lingxuan wants the 2nd female lead role because that role is badass. [/efn_note], or what?
What Wen Xin didn’t expect was that, yes she didn’t take Fu Lingxuan’s spot——but she got Fu Lingxuan’s best friend, Ruan Qiu’s role.
Initially, Ruan Qiu was set to be the third female lead.
But because the second female lead was still not determined, she recommended herself to Xu Tianhe because she thought she could challenge the secondary female lead role.
Although Xu Tianhe thought that Ruan Qiu’s style didn’t fit the second female lead role, since there weren’t any suitable candidates, he decided to let Ruan Qiu try first.
Ruan Qiu was so happy, as going from a third female lead to the second female lead meant that her scenes were a little bit more.
Who knew that after Director Xu said that she could try, a phone call from the investors and Ruan Qiu’s plans went down the drain.
Ruan Qiu then called her best friend—Fu Lingxuan—and cried as she told her what happened.
Fu Lingxuan was so mad that she cursed Wen Xin for being a shameless person who used backdoors(has a backer) to get a role.
Although Ruan Qiu wasn’t that famous, she at least had proper instruction. And Wen Xin? Where did this wild chicken come from?
Fu Lingxuan had wanted to go onto Weibo to post her rage, but luckily her manager was around at the time to confiscate her phone, thus ensuring that it didn’t explode into an awful scenario.
But she restrained it in her heart, certain she would find an opportunity to release it.
She wasn’t satisfied with everything she saw and heard about Wen Xin. And on the first day when the crew started working, Wen Xin even brought her pet into the set, blatantly!
“Too arrogant, I have been in circles for so many years, I have never seen such an arrogant person with a backer.”
When the door of the resting room closed, Fu Lingxuan kicked off the high heel shoes on her feet; completely different from her usual elegant look in front of others.
Ruan Qiu immediately comforted her: “Xuan-jie, don’t be mad. You will hurt your body by being mad.”
Fu Lingxuan looked at Ruan Qiu with regret 3: “Qiuqiu, I’m mad for you. It’s just unjust. You see, what is it in your appearance, acting skills, and character that are not as good as that person with a backer? As a result, now you can only be ranked as the third female lead, whereas she had it good. She takes her pet into the studio and gets to play the second female lead as if she’s on a vacation.”
Quan Qiu’s eyes dimmed: “This….I can only blame myself for being too useless.”
“Idiot, how can this be your fault.” As soon as Fu Lingxuan saw Ruan Qiu feeling sad, she immediately felt a little sorry for her, “Don’t worry about this. I will handle it.”
“I have seen Wen Xin’s past work. She is just a good-looking vase.” 4
Fu Lingxuan laughed softly, showing a ‘determined to win’ smile: “I know Director Xu the best. He would want to ensure the quality of his work even if he must give up money and his life. What will he do when he sees Wen Xin’s true self?”
“Xuan-jie, there won’t be any problems right?”
“How could I cause any problems? What’s worse would be that Director Xu would think that I’m just causing trouble. Do you think, with the relationship that I have with Director Xu, he would bear to accuse me?’
“Then, I will first thank Xuan-jie…..”
Ruan Qiu’s eyes blinked innocently, just like a little sheep who knew nothing about the world.
2 o’clock in the afternoon.
《Abandoned Concubine》drama crew officially began filming.
Because it was the first day, the whole crew, from top to bottom —except for the male lead who was still in the last crew—were all on set watching the scene.
The first shot was a scene where the female lead first entered the palace.
Fu Lingxuan put on the drama costume, had red makeup, and looked as if she was an ancient beauty who just walked out of a painting. The moment her face was visible, many people on set gasped.
She was this movie’s female main lead, the ‘abandoned concubine’ herself.
‘Abandoned concubine’ was originally the daughter of a rich businessman. Because of her beautiful appearance, she was taken back to the palace by the emperor while he was out on a trip around the country; Fu Lingxuan’s appearance would not make people doubt this setting.
Next was the second female lead, Wen Xin.
Wen Xin played the empress of the palace, who was the opposite of Fu Lingxuan’s ‘Abandoned Concubine’.
The ‘abandoned concubine’ was charming, while the empress was dignified. The ‘abandoned concubine’ was born with a humble background, and the empress’s father and brother were all outstanding generals. The ‘abandoned concubine’ didn’t like to read and only loved to play the Guzheng, whereas the empress herself was knowledgeable and proficient in six arts.5
Everyone thought that under Fu Lingxuan’s beauty, anyone would be dim.
But only when Wen Xin’s ‘empress’ slowly entered the scene did everyone realize that:that the beauty of a dignified beauty can also be breathtaking, that compared to a ‘charming’ beauty, it simply wasn’t worth mentioning.
Fu Lingxuan saw the crowd’s reaction in her eyes, and snorted coldly in her heart: It’s just a face.
Wen Xin, however, was completely immersed in her role.
According to the plot, Fu Lingxuan just entered the palace and came to pay her respects to the empress’s palace.
Because of her humble origins, the empress thought she didn’t understand the rules of the palace, so she sent her attendants to teach her manners. On the surface, it was teaching, but it was just monitoring and lecturing.
The lines that had been recited until engraved into memory appeared in her mind, as Wen Xin slightly curled her lips:
“Imperial Concubine Jia [you/Fu Lingxuan’s character] just entered the palace, surely you are unfamiliar with the palace’s rules and regulations. It just so happens that some of the maids in my palace are quite proficient in this, so I will reward you with them.”
“Thank you, Empress.” Fu Lingxuan bowed to salute, but looked up with a smile:
“However, the day before yesterday, because I was forced to leave my hometown, his majesty had especially allowed me to bring my maid to serve me. I’m afraid that I wouldn’t be able to accept your highness’s kindness.”
Wen Xin frowned slightly. The lines were changed?
This should be the part where she accepts.
Fu Lingxuan had a smile on her face and a slight glint in her eyes.
At that moment, Wen Xin knew clearly and immediately, and laughed: “ Little sister 6 jokes. Why is there a reason to not want more maids to wait on you? If there’s no room in Jiading palace (your palace), I’ll let the house of internal affairs draw another piece of land for you.”
Fu Lingxuan didn’t expect her to react so quickly and could perfectly catch her words. Her face suddenly changed: “I just entered the palace, and I dare not be so extravagant.”
“How could that be, little sister even dares to contradict my words, what else do you dare not?” Wen Xin asked her.
Fu Lingxuan was speechless.
Xu Tianhe finally couldn’t bear to see it continue: “Ling Xuan, what the hell are you doing? Don’t you remember your lines? If you don’t remember your lines, go count. Why are you talking nonsense and changing the plot?”
“I……” Fu Lingxuan was so mad that her eyes were red.
She initially had wanted to let Director Xu have a look at Wen Xin’s true self, who knew that Wen Xin would react quickly to this sudden change, and was able to reply to her freestyle lines. On the contrary, she couldn’t catch up with herself.
“Can you do it or not. If you can’t, come down and go memorize your lines first.”
Director Xu frowned.
When he was directing a play, he always didn’t mind the actors’ on-the-spot performance. The premise was that the actors could justify themselves as long as it had no influence on the main plotline.
Fu Lingxuan had worked with him several times, and he thought Fu Lingxuan’s ability was absolutely fine.
He didn’t expect Fu Lingxuan would drop the ball at a critical moment, on the contrary, Wen Xin—whom he didn’t have much expectation for—performed surprisingly well……
Fu Lingxuan was not in the mood to act because she was so angry, and her opponent was Wen Xin, which made her more irritated.
So she just took this opportunity to get off set first. She was thinking about calming down for a while. Calm down, calm down. If this method didn’t work, we can think of another method…Suddenly——
“Ah! What is this!”
A black rat, about ten centimeters long, appeared out of nowhere, before her eyes.
The mouse was still alive, shivering in the cold wind as if it had just suffered some inhuman abuse.
After a while, the big black cat leisurely came out of nowhere.
The golden pupils just glanced at the mouse. The next moment, the mouse creaked and rolled closer to Fu Lingxuan.
Fu Lingxuan’s eyes turned dark and she nearly fainted.
Kame:(serves her right~)

- 得寸进尺dé cùn jìn chǐ: Literally “win an inch, want a foot (idiom)” Basically a person who is not satisfied with small gains. You give them an inch, and he’ll want a mile. You let them go once, and then they demanded more.
- 小Xiǎo means small/little. When used in front of a name like 小闻(闻is the Wen from Wen Xin), then it’s like calling someone “Little _name_”. Usually just to address someone younger or if you are close with them.
- 恨铁不成钢hèn tiě bù chéng gāng: Literal translation is “To hate iron for not becoming steel”. Basically, it’s to feel resentful towards somebody for failing to meet expectations, and that they are being impatient to see improvement.
- 花瓶Huāpíng: Literal translation is ‘vase’, but it is an internet slang for a person who is useless. They are nothing but a pretty face. It’s similar to ‘trophy wife’. Basically this is saying that Wen Xin is just a pretty celebrity with poor acting skills.
- Since wikipedia explains it a lot better than me, I shall quote Wikipedia: During the Zhou dynasty, students were required to master the Six Arts/六藝liù yì: 1. Rites (禮) 2.Music (樂) 3.Archery (射) 4.Chariotry (御) 5. Calligraphy (書) 6. Mathematics (數). Men who excelled in these six arts were thought to have reached the state of perfection; a perfect gentleman. This ‘Six Arts’ concept developed during the pre-imperial period and incorporated both military and civil components. The civil side was later associated with the Four Arts/琴棋书画 qínqíshūhuà= Abbreviation of the four arts that each Chinese scholar practice and studies: qin琴 (Guqin, a string instrument),qi 棋(the strategy game of Go(Weiqi 围棋)/Chess),shu书 (Chinese calligraphy), and hua画(Chinese painting).
- 妹妹Mèimei: Literal translation is little sister. But in this case, they aren’t really related by blood. It’s just how the Empress refer to other concubines of lower ranking.
