My Deceased Wife Came Back and Joined Me in a Romantic Reality Show - Chapter 21
As the sun set in the forest, the temperature began to drop, and Qu Yanbo eventually decided to put his jacket back on to ward off the chill.
Bathed in the soft glow of the setting sun, the group gathered and started to organize the purchased ingredients. The items they bought were pre-prepared and ready to be grilled, neatly arranged in skewers, making it easy for everyone.
Squatting in front of the shopping bags, Luan Yi took out the food items. To his surprise, he found a palm-sized plastic toy among them. He picked it up and examined it closely, asking, “Why did we buy a toy?”
In response, Yun Chi turned around and explained, “We didn’t buy it. The supermarket is running a promotion, and they give this toy as a gift when you spend a certain amount.”
Meng Qiuyan also chimed in, “Yes, many kids who came for camping were pestering their parents to get this toy. I picked one. Do you want to play with it?”
Luan Yi showed interest. “How do you play with it?”
“There should be a switch. Try to find it,” Meng Qiuyan said as he continued to handle the food.
The toy was in the shape of a cute, pink piglet, and it had a round disc at its feet with a pull cord on the side. Luan Yi pulled the cord, and the little piglet mechanically twisted and moved on the base until the cord retracted again.
“Hahaha!” he laughed at the amusing sight. He turned around and wanted to show it to Wen Yang as well, pulling the cord to demonstrate. “Look at this.”
However, it seemed that the toy and Wen Yang were not compatible. As the cord was pulled out, the piglet only moved slightly before the cord got stuck, and it refused to retract back.
“Huh?” Luan Yi inspected the toy from all angles, even patting its head, but to no avail. The little piglet remained motionless.
Luan Yi made a few more attempts to pull the cord, but it remained stuck. Wen Yang commented, “It’s probably broken.”
Indeed, it seemed like a case of poor quality for a free gift. Feeling disappointed, he looked around and noticed that the charcoal had been lit, and plastic items were not safe to keep near the fire. So he walked back to his tent and placed the broken piglet toy inside.
Meng Qiuyan was not only skilled in cooking but also excelled at grilling skewers. The aroma of his grilled food tempted even the program crew members.
Although others couldn’t match Meng Qiuyan’s level, they still contributed by doing what they could, and everyone enjoyed their meal.
However, there was still plenty of time left before the night ended. Under the starry sky, someone had brought a projector and started screening an outdoor movie from afar. The program crew had also prepared for this, and they spread out some cloth on the grass, where the guests sat together to watch a classic horror film.
This time, it finally met Chi Xingyi’s criteria, as he believed that watching a movie should not require much mental effort; being in the right mood was enough.
The problem was that this horror film was too effective in setting the atmosphere, and it hit Luan Yi’s fear spot directly.
Having watched numerous films, horror movies were always his weak point.
The scare techniques used in this film were outdated, and most of the horror came from sudden jump scares. However, even with this predictability, when the atmosphere was effectively built up, the horror still closely followed.
The film’s impact was strong, and even after everyone had finished washing up and returned to their tents to rest, Luan Yi couldn’t shake off the lingering fear as memories of various horror elements from the movie resurfaced one by one.
In the gradually dimming light outside, with a vast forest behind him, Luan Yi’s mind conjured up images of serial killers hiding in the deep woods, genetically mutated animals, or mad scientists obsessed with human experimentation…
The spacious tent, which had been comfortable enough for several people to sleep in, now felt not so welcoming, but rather radiated a sense of loneliness and suspicion, as if ghosts could sneak in at any moment.
Under the covers, Luan Yi twisted and turned, rolling himself up into a ball. He glanced with half-closed eyes at the makeshift camera that the program crew had added to the top of the tent, thinking that at least there was a camera in case any deranged scientists decided to visit.
Moreover, the tents arranged by the program crew were not too far apart from each other, with only about a meter of space between them. Luan Yi’s tent was on the far right, and on the left side, next to him, was Wen Yang. If anything were to happen, he could call for help at any time.
In this state of mind, Luan Yi fell into a half-asleep daze. He didn’t notice that the piglet toy he had thrown to the corner of the tent had shifted, and the cord that was previously stuck seemed to show signs of movement.
In the early morning hours, Luan Yi was suddenly awakened by a tapping sensation from under the ground. In that instant of waking up, he felt something poking his lower leg a few times. The feeling was so vivid, as if something from the depths of the earth was trying to drag him in.
Luan Yi shot up in bed, and in the process, he turned on the tent light.
Startled and suspicious, he lifted the covers, and the piglet toy that had been wrapped in the sheets flew to the other side of the tent. All he could feel was the soft touch of the tent’s bottom against the grass.
What could be moving…
A sense of unease crept over him, a shiver running up his spine and reaching the top of his head.
The apprehensive thoughts before falling asleep and the inexplicable touch in the middle of the night combined, reaching a peak of fear for Luan Yi when a flying insect, attracted by the tent’s light, made a thumping sound as it hit the tent’s surface.
“Damn, damn, following the rules of horror movies, either someone is outside the tent right now, or in a while, the zipper of my tent will move,” thought Luan Yi as he stared fixedly at the zipper. Suddenly, he felt a vibration in his pocket, startling him. However, he realized it was just his phone ringing.
Luan Yi picked up his phone, thinking it was probably some random notification that he could just turn off and calm down. To his surprise, it was a message from Wen Yang.
Wen Yang: “Can’t sleep?”
Luan Yi guessed that Wen Yang must have heard the noise from his tent. Though he felt a bit scared, he knew this fear was irrational, and there was no real reason to be afraid. If he admitted that he was scared, it would be embarrassing.
After a two-minute delay, Luan Yi replied with a tone of feigned sleepiness: “Sleeping, I’m already asleep.”
When Wen Yang didn’t respond, Luan Yi thought that he had successfully fooled him. However, just as his tent should have been empty apart from him, a scraping sound, as if someone was sliding their fingertips across the tent, came from the side nearest to him.
As if afraid that Luan Yi didn’t hear it, the scraping sound repeated three or four times before finally stopping.
The pig toy, previously hidden in the corner, had been moving slightly as all the pulled-out strings were now completely drawn back.
“Oh my god, oh my god!” Luan Yi’s scalp tingled. He regretted pretending that everything was fine in front of Wen Yang.
Then, his phone lit up silently once more, and when Luan Yi looked down, he saw a photo sent by Wen Yang. It was a clear silhouette of him sitting inside his lit-up tent. There was no need for any words to accompany the picture, but it combined with Luan Yi’s previous message of “I’m already asleep” to form a huge question mark.
At this point, Luan Yi no longer cared about saving face. He quickly typed on his phone, “Ge, I think there’s something poking at my tent!”
Soon, Wen Yang replied, “Two options: If you’re scared, we can switch tents, or you can come over and squeeze in with me.”
It was now past 1:40 AM, and all the crew members were asleep. Luan Yi hesitated for a moment. Although the possibility was slim, he really felt that something was wrong with his tent. If he left and let Wen Yang sleep there, what if something happened to Wen Yang in the middle of the night?
Even the thought of the ghost having taken a liking to him and following him to another tent crossed his mind. It was a ridiculous idea, but fear could take on a tangible form.
Luan Yi quickly made his choice, “Ge, I’ll sleep with you.”
He wrapped himself up in his blanket and bravely unzipped his tent. Just as he stepped out, he saw that the zipper of Wen Yang’s tent was already open.
Entering the tent, he found Wen Yang sitting there, but the light was off. Fearing that the ghost might have followed him, he quickly zipped up the tent for safety.
To avoid awkwardness, Luan Yi casually found an excuse, pretending to be composed, “Why did you leave your tent zipper open? Bugs might crawl in.”
In the darkness, Wen Yang had already laid back down, but his voice was clear, “I was afraid you’d go to the wrong tent.”
Luan Yi: “…”
He felt like he was scolded.
However, he also laid down, found a comfortable spot, and gently breathed a sigh of relief. Luan Yi had expected to be nervous and unable to sleep in Wen Yang’s tent, but his steady and even breathing sounded like a lullaby. It didn’t take long for him to fall asleep.
The next morning, at around 7:30 AM, Luan Yi woke up from his slumber.
Before opening his eyes, he felt like he was holding a big doll, with one leg still draped over it. This sense of comfort abruptly vanished as he fully regained consciousness.
Luan Yi opened his eyes and realized that he was wrapped in his own blanket, holding Wen Yang in his arms. What was even more embarrassing was that one of his legs was draped over Wen Yang’s waist, almost like he was riding on top of him.
In that moment of realization, Luan Yi felt like he was going to die, die, die. He looked up at Wen Yang and saw that he was still breathing evenly with his eyes closed, likely still fast asleep.
He tried to slowly withdraw his leg, intending to cover up everything before Wen Yang woke up. He probably hadn’t been doing it for too long; otherwise, how could Wen Yang still be asleep? So, as long as he pulled his leg back, maybe he wouldn’t be discovered.
However, just as Luan Yi lifted his leg and slowly moved it away from Wen Yang, he didn’t have the chance to breathe a sigh of relief.
Wen Yang’s voice came from above him, “Are you awake?”
Time seemed to freeze at that moment.
【Barrage loading】
“Hahaha, they were in a daze. The part where Xiao Meng asked if Luan Yi wanted to play with the toy, Luan Yi was crouching beside him and Yun Chi. Suddenly, it felt like a family of three.”
The program later repeatedly focused on the small piglet toy that was tossed around, revealing the source of all the misunderstandings.
“The Piggy Team made a great contribution!”
In the post-production, they even included screenshots of Luan Yi and Wen Yang’s conversation on the phone.
“It’s so sweet when Luan Yi calls Wen Yang ‘ge’. Who understands my feelings QAQ? He seems soft and fragrant.”
“Hahaha, the wife only calls him ‘ge’ when he wants something, so cunning!”
“This big guy is the kind of person who gets things done without wasting time on useless chatter. I love it!”
When Luan Yi did indeed enter Wen Yang’s tent, the barrage filled the entire screen.
“Hehehe, are they secretly kissing under the covers? Octopus, quickly show us the kissing scene!”
“Hahaha, fearing that the wife might enter the wrong tent, it’s funny, but it also feels quite possible.”
“Poor guy, worrying so much about his silly wife.”
“Hahaha, I always feel like when he says ‘come over and squeeze in with me’, he’s saying it in a teasing manner.”
“‘Come over and squeeze in with me’ with a certain elongated tone.”
“This man always has a sense of humor when facing his wife.”
“Maybe he’s not joking; he really fears that his wife might sneak into someone else’s tent, hahaha.”
Luan Yi didn’t know when he had lifted his leg and draped it over Wen Yang, but the tent’s camera faithfully recorded everything. Around two in the morning, shortly after Luan Yi fell asleep, he began mumbling in his sleep. At around two-thirty, in fast-forward, he put his leg on Wen Yang and embraced him comfortably.
It was evident that Wen Yang had awakened at some point, but his hands didn’t push Luan Yi’s leg away. Instead, he pulled back the nearby blanket that Luan Yi had kicked away and covered Luan Yi’s leg with it.
“So gentle!!”
“This silly wife is quite lucky!”
“Wuwuwu, this couple is so sweet. They haven’t even held hands yet, but I feel so touched.”
“That’s why having a robust physique is important. Not only can he withstand his wife’s cooking experiments, but he can also handle his wife riding on top of him. Ladies, take notes for your partner selection criteria.”
“At this point, the big shot should be grateful that his wife didn’t sleep next to someone else, or else he would be riding that someone else!”
And when Wen Yang said, “Are you awake?” in his naturally seductive morning voice, the barrage went crazy.
“Damn, the big shot’s voice is so mesmerizing.”
“So alluring… cough cough, I feel like the part blocked by the blanket must be quite enticing…”
“Sister, which head are you talking about? [Winking face]”
“If the camera wasn’t there, hehehe, it feels like they’ve already done something.”
“Wife, have you gone through drug rehab? How could you resist pouncing on the big guy in a situation like this?”
“After watching this episode, I’ll have to punish myself by watching Wang Baochuan gathering wild vegetables again.”
