Picked Up a Scammer Rabbit - Chapter 32: How on earth can I become human
When An Xingzhou was cooking for Peng Ci, he got a call from the pet store.
Yesterday, Peng Ci had been pestering An Xingzhou about playing games together, but they forgot the time while gaming. The human and rabbit pair was all “I won’t sleep if the moon doesn’t” and “I won’t wake up if the sun doesn’t sleep”, so they only went to bed when it was almost morning. They slept all the way into the afternoon. An Xingzhou got up to eat after waking up from hunger, while Peng Ci was still snoring.
Peng Ci slept a lot in the first place, so it’d probably sleep until the nighttime after staying up all night. Afraid that it would be hungry after waking up, he left some food prepared.
He turned off the fire and picked up the phone after wiping his hands. The employee at the pet store got straight to the point: “Mr. An, you previously pre-ordered a female rabbit, and a very cute one was delivered today. Would it be convenient for you to come get it today?”
An Xingzhou: “?”
“Wait a sec.” An Cingzhou pinched the bridge of his nose and asked, “When did I order a female rabbit?”
The employee blanked for a moment. “Just before… you said it on Wechat?”
The employee seemed to be afraid that An Xingzhou would deny it and said hurriedly, “We don’t sell the pets directly in-store. We only order the pets after customers request it. Would you like to take a look at the chat records?”
An Xingzhou quietly raised his head to think, finally remembering that something like that did happen.
When he had gone to buy rabbit feed with Peng Ci at the pet store, he’d followed the pet store on Wechat in passing. Considering the differences between humans and animals and the fact that Peng Ci kept calling him “Wife”, he told the pet store to save a female rabbit for him if they had one.
But after getting along for so long, he didn’t see Peng Ci as just a rabbit anymore and had completely forgotten about it. But to his surprise, the pet store really did save a rabbit for him.
He couldn’t exactly turn the employee down after what they said, so he decided that he would deal with the rabbit later by giving it to someone else or something and replied, “Okay, I’ll go get it later. Do you sell rabbit cages?”
Peng Ci lived like a human at An Xingzhou’s house. It ate on the table, used the same bathroom, and even slept on his bed. But the female rabbit he’d be taking in definitely couldn’t live like that.
Just thinking about how there would be another rabbit in his house gave An Xingzhou a headache. Let that be a lesson to not be impulsive!
He grumbled as he got changed to go out. But after putting on his shoes at the door, he hesitated, took off his shoes, and went back.
An Xingzhou figured that he’d be able to make it back before Peng Ci woke up if he called a taxi, but he still worried that Peng Ci would wake up and not find him anywhere. In the end, he wrote a note and left it on the bedside.
An Xingzhou didn’t plan to raise the female rabbit and made a post on Wechat, saying he was giving a rabbit away, after getting into the car. After that, he planned how he was going to explain it to Peng Ci.
Peng Ci was the literal embodiment of jealousy. The more he thought about it, the more his head hurt, and the more scared he felt. The two rabbits wouldn’t get into a fight, would they?!
‘Ci Ci probably doesn’t know how to use magic, right?’ An Xinghou thought in concern, ‘Probably not, but demons have their demonic powers. What if Ci Ci makes my house disappear with a “poof”?!’
An Xingzhou was a little panicked and regretful. Why did he take things so hard and buy a female rabbit for Peng Ci?
Before he came up with an explanation for Peng Ci in his distress, An Xingzhou arrived at the pet store.
He paid the fare and got off. Every step he took with his legs trembling felt like he was walking on a tightrope towards death.
But right after he arrived at the pet store, An Xingzhou stopped trembling.
A rabbit cage had been left at the front desk, and a little yellow and white bunny with its short ears standing upright was inside. It looked at An Xingzhou in a well behaved but wary manner. When he approached, the bunny climbed onto the side of the cage to stand up and pushed its twitching nose towards An Xingzhou, as if it was confirming An Xingzhou’s smell.
After sniffing for around ten seconds very earnestly, the little bunny reached out with one of its paws and tremblingly touched An Xingzhou.
An Xingzhou: “…”
‘So cute! I love it! I’m going to raise it!”
Like he had been bewitched, An Xingzhou paid with hearts in his eyes and floated over to a taxi to go home.
When he returned, Peng Ci was still asleep.
He took the little bunny out of the cage and put it on the sofa. He didn’t have the courage to use Peng Ci’s bowl, so he just poured some rabbit feed into a little bowl he didn’t use much and set it in front of the little bunny. He squatted while watching the bunny eat.
‘So cute.’ An Xingzhou thought, ‘This is what a real rabbit should be like. It doesn’t talk, doesn’t make a fuss, and looks like it’s a little afraid of humans. So timid and well-behaved.”
An Xingzhou was mesmerized.
But in the next second, he heard the thudding of footsteps.
Peng Ci hollered “Wife” while running towards An Xingzhou, asking him, “Wife, why are you squ—Squeak!!!”
Peng Ci skidded to a halt. In its shock, its fluffy fur trembled as it stood up and straightened its ears. After a few huffs, Peng Ci shrieked at the female rabbit on the sofa.
An Xingzhou cursed under his breath and hurriedly reached over to pick up Peng Ci, but Peng Ci hopped to the side quickly, avoiding An Xingzhou’s hand. It stared at the female rabbit warily and then turned back to look at An Xingzhou. “Who is she?!”
It was An Xingzhou’s first time getting rejected by Peng Ci. His fingers shrank back as he pulled them back unnaturally. “No, let me explain…”
Peng Ci made a few “bubu” sounds. “Explain!”
An Xingzhou said, “This was actually… the female rabbit I planned to get for you…”
Peng Ci: “…?”
Peng Ci hadn’t yet responded when a feminine, soft, and childish voice sounded from the sofa. “Who would want to be his female rabbit?!”
An Xingzhou: “!”
An Xingzhou turned his head in shock and saw the female rabbit he brought home crouching on the sofa and looking at them like they were idiots. “I’m speechless. I was captured and sold while taking a walk! I went with you only because I smelled Peng Ci’s scent on you! Hurry and send me home!”
An Xingzhou looked from left to right. He was a little dumbfounded, but he caught the main point and retorted, “Ci Ci! She knows you! Is she some random rabbit you met behind my back?!”
Peng Ci’s small rabbit brain kept it from absorbing extra information, so it stepped foolishly into An Xingzhou’s trap after the sudden counterattack and explained in a panic, “I didn’t! I don’t know her!”
As Peng Ci spoke, it suddenly stopped and looked at the little rabbit, saying, “She looks a little familiar… but you can just throw her out!”
“I’ll stab you to death!” The rabbit said fiercely, despite its adorable face. “I’m Yuan Yuan, your neighbor! I’m going to tear your head off!”
“Hiss!” Peng Ci let out a cry and jumped onto the sofa. It pounced over and extended its claws. The two rabbits suddenly got into a fight on the sofa, like they were doing parkour.
The fighting was extremely fierce. The unstable situation worsened into major upheaval as the two short-legged ones hopped here and there, each unable to hit the other.
An Xingzhou: “…”
An Xingzhou sighed and grabbed one in each hand to separate them.
Peng Ci was still huffing—it looked extremely angry. “You’re Bunny Yuan! I remember now! Stay away from my Wife!”
“Hmph.” Bunny Yuan glanced at Peng Ci. “You can’t even become human yet, can you? What right do you have to call him ‘Wife’, when you can’t do that for him?”
“I-I…” Peng Ci let out a sob and cried, “I also want to know how to become human!”
An Xingzhou: “…”
‘So all this time you were telling me that you’d be very big down there after you became human, all while not knowing how to?!’
