- Chapter 21 - The Retirement of Taisho Flamingo (1)
“W-Wow…”
“…What is that?”
As the battle ended and the Flame Demon Beast, Ifrit, returned to its own world, Haru-san and Moe-san murmured in astonishment.
I let out a small sigh and operated the AR lens to hide the display screen of Dtube, including comments and other information. Having the viewer count and comments flickering in the corner of my vision while trying to converse with others was distracting.
“Are you alright? No injuries?”
“Yes, I’m fine!”
When I asked, Haru-san energetically replied. Looking around, I saw that the Dungeon Seekers who had been escorting the Taisho Flamingo were all safe. Karin had thoroughly healed their injuries with her <Healing Magic: Heal>.
It was kind of funny to think that a demon king who fought so many deadly battles was treating humans, and in my world as well.
“…You’re not thinking of something rude, right?”
Noticing my gaze, Karin asked somewhat displeased.
“Oh, it’s just that I couldn’t help but think you went out of your way to heal them. Thank you.”
“I-I healed them. It wasn’t because you instructed me to do so or anything.”
Karin turned her face away, seemingly embarrassed.
Perhaps she was not used to being thanked or shown gratitude after being addressed as a hated being for so long.
Actually, I had only asked if it was possible, I didn’t explicitly request her to go as far as healing them. It seemed like I had discovered another cute side of Karin.
“Uh, um! Thank you so much! You really saved us.”
“Thanks, you really saved us. By the way, both of you are so strong! It’s like watching a movie.”
Haru-san and Moe-san lined up in front of us to express their gratitude.
Haru-san seemed timid and reserved, while Moe-san appeared lively and friendly, giving off a sisterly vibe. Both of them didn’t seem to be bad people.
When Haru-san glanced at the cameraman, the cameraman adjusted the camera angle so that Karin and I wouldn’t be in the shot.
“I’d like to introduce the two of you to our viewers…is that OK?”
Haru-san asked, seeking confirmation.
It seemed like they were being considerate of us. It’s understandable since broadcasting others without permission between streamers might cause issues. Coming from being a Utuber, they probably needed to be careful about such things.
“Oh, we’re okay with that.”
“Thanks. Alright, Suzuki, film the two of them. We must introduce our saviors to our audience!”
Moe-san instructed the cameraman, who was apparently named Suzuki-san, and he pointed the camera in our direction.
Being filmed like this made me feel somewhat embarrassed. It’s not like I mind being photographed or recorded with smartphones or tablets, but…Oh, I see. Maybe it’s because there are people behind it that I’m nervous.
Haru-san and Moe-san didn’t notice the smartphones and tablets floating behind us.
“Um, once again…Thank you for helping us.”
“Yeah, you really saved us!”
“Oh, no need to mention it. We just happened to pass by.”
It’s not something I’m used to, being bowed to by older women, especially when they’re famous. This is a situation you don’t come across in ordinary life.
Karin seemed unsure of how to respond and seemed to be observing the situation.
“By the way, may I ask your names?”
“Oh, um… I’m Saeki Soma.”
“I’m Kazamatsuri Karin.”
Karin remained composed even in front of the Taisho Flamingo.
I thought it was impressive for a moment, but then I realized it was just the way she usually was. While they might be famous Dtubers to me, to her, they were just two women.
“Both of you are Dtubers, right?”
“Yes. We are newcomers who just started our channel today.”
Although I’ve gone solo and made it to the 20th underground floor, I decided not to mention that.
It’s not something many people have done, so they probably wouldn’t believe me anyway.
“Newcomers? Oh, wait! You just started your channel today, so this is your first stream!? What with that fighting style…? Who are you really?”
Moe-san said, moving her hands in the air as if checking our Dtube accounts on AR.
They probably wanted to check our Dtube channel on AR to confirm.
“Did the two of you often enter this dungeon as Seekers?”
“As for me, it’s my first time here. As for Soma-sama, I think he’s entered this dungeon several times before.”
Karin replied on my behalf.
Well, that’s technically a truthful answer. It’s the truth, and it keeps us from raising suspicion about both of our fighting styles.
“First stream, first dungeon, and high school students doing a couple’s stream…It’s quite a remarkable era we’re living in.”
Moe-san looked shocked and muttered something in a low voice. She seemed to be taken aback.
“We’ve been through some really scary experiences, but Karin-san, aren’t you afraid of dungeons? To be honest, I was scared at first. I wasn’t used to fighting, and it was all new to me.”
Haru-san asked Karin. As expected, their attention was focused on her. She fought in a crimson dress and even summoned the Flame Demon Beast, Ifrit, completely breaking common sense and making a huge mess. So, it was natural for them to be curious.
As I absentmindedly pondered about that, Karin grabbed my arm and pulled me closer to her.
“As long as I’m with Soma-sama, I have nothing to fear.”
“Huh?”
“Argh, you’re such a charmer! Don’t make this lovely girl cry!”
Moe-san playfully teased.
Well, She almost brought me to tears with her erotic manga jokes even before we entered the dungeon. And to be honest, I almost cried multiple times during the intense battles in Tenburg because of her. At least she didn’t summon a creature that time, which was a relief.
‘Ah, I see. So that’s it.’
At that moment, I realized the true meaning of her words earlier when she said, “I could have struggled a bit more against you, Soma-sama.” Probably, she was referring to the summoning technique from earlier.
Indeed, if she had summoned the Flame Demon Beast, Ifrit, during that intense battle, my victory would have been far from certain. The fight would have lasted for more than three days and nights. I don’t know why she didn’t use her trump card, but silently, I felt grateful to her.
Watching us like that, Haru-san smiled softly, and it was a smile that seemed to accept something or maybe even give up on something. She turned towards Moe-san and said.
“Hey, Moe. There’s something I realized today…What do you think about quitting dungeon streaming?”
